Waterdeep, November 28th 1357, late evening
The group is on the roof of the scriptorium with the three people they were to save. Around them, on the ground, thousands of undead flow past, heading towards the gates that lead to the City of the Dead.
Fist jumps across the gap to the roof of a building to the north. Using a rope, the group manages to go across the gap and bring the civilians with them. Using Maiele’s Raven familiar, the communicate to the Guard on the walls of the City of the Dead that they are coming. With the judicious use of ropes, everyone gets across safely.
As the group arrives on the wall, large booms are hears to the east, near the gate. A guard says that it must be wizards using fireballs to protect the attempt to close the gates. Several more booms are heard. The Guards ask the group to help the attempt to close the gates, saying they can get the Droversons to safety.
The group agrees and heads east on the wall, arriving at the west Gate tower. From there, they see the circle of adventurers and Guards around the gate, in defensive position. With archers on the walls and well placed barricades, the group below is clearing out the corpses to clear the gate.
A hush falls over the battlefield and, from the gatetower, the group sees a large figure in black full plate armour advance up the main street towards the gates. The undead part as he walks and, even from the tower, the feeling of cold evil can be felt. When the figure reaches the line of Guards, he calmly cuts the first Guard in half and then beheads him, sending the grisly object flying up in the air. The sheer casualness of the act sends ripples of fear through all the living near the figure and the lines begins to break.
Sensing the impeding rout, the group moves below to help the adventuring group and the Guard. In the ensuing epic battle, the Black Knight fumbles and drops his unholy avenger. Fist, stealing himself, promptly takes the evil artifact and runs with it. The Blackguard dimensions doors in pursuit but, when he sees the demise of his plans and the victory of the forces of Good, vows vengeance and disappears.
